What are the demonstrative pronouns?

Demonstrative pronouns are used to point at specific things/ directions, and they are (This & these) and (That & Those).

singular & near: this                            Plural & near: These

Singular & far: that                              Plural & far: Those

Let’s have a look at some examples of demonstrative pronouns in sentences to understand the rules better:

This is my favourite book – (pointing to a book that is near me).

That’s my friend’s house – (pointing to a house that is far from me).

These are tasty cookies – (pointing to some cookies that are near me).

Those are my classmates – (pointing to the classmates who are somewhere far from me).

So, this is how you can use demonstrative pronouns in sentences. You just need to remember the function of each of them. I explained about the use of subject pronouns and object pronouns here so you may click on them to learn the differences. Also, I recommend clicking on my English grammar blog as I explain different English grammar topics.

Have a great day & take care!
