When to use the present perfect passive voice?

You need to use the present perfect passive voice to describe situations that have been completed at some points in the past but the effect are still relevant to the moment and the focus is on the result, not the subject.

*If you have any questions about the use of the present perfect, feel free to check this post as I explained everything you need to know about the use of present perfect and I even explained other related tenses here.

As for the main difference between the active voice and passive voice is on the focus of the message:

Active voice focuses on the subject.

Passive voice focuses on the object (result).

How to form sentences using the present perfect passive voice?

You need to follow this structure and then let’s have a look at the following present perfect passive examples:

Subject + has/have + been + past participle

Use has with (he, she, it)

Use have with (I, they, we, you)

Example:

Active voice: He has reviewed the documents.

Passive voice: The documents have been reviewed.

Explanation:

The object (document) needs to be the main focus in the (passive voice). The subject (he) is not really that important to be included in the passive voice and it is optional (you may add it if you want to).

Active voice: They have written the report.

Passive voice: The report has been written.
